Chapter 4

Meaning-making, Post-traumatic Growth, and the Counterculturists of the Slocan Valley

To illustrate post-traumatic growth, this chapter walks us through various ways of processing trauma. Using a remote region of British Columbia where counterculturists, Quakers, and Doukhobors created intentional communities, we see how a sense of coherence, learned resourcefulness and redemptive sequencing are processes that can lead to a life full of growth and gratitude. Creating and sharing wise stories that end in giving is reinforced as an educative practice.
